Hello mom and dad, Its been a great week, probably one of the best on my mission. The car is still not fixed but me and my companion are doing this thing where we are trying to work on Christ-like attributes, and this week is patience week so we are trying not to complain about anything. But we actually had two baptisms yesterday and one of them was the coolest thing I have seen on my mission so far. So there is this Afrikaner named Barney. Afrikaners are very stubborn people and they like to stick to what they know and if it’s not their way than it’s the high way. Barney was one of these men. He has been taught by the missionaries for a very long time with his wife being a member and his son. He even used to refuse to say a prayer or come to church, but slowly his testimony grew. The missionaries never thought that they could change this stubborn man, and yesterday he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ and his testimony is stronger than anyone I have ever seen in my life. As he walked out of the font his wife ran up to him with himself being completely wet and they just hugged each other for about 5 minutes, just both crying in each other’s arms because they knew that they were going to be able to spend eternity with each other. This was one of the most emotional things I have seen on my mission and I, myself, Justin Ronald Brey cried at that baptism because I saw what this gospel could do for people, even a stubborn Afrikaans man. I don’t think once on my mission I have really understood what this all was about until that day.
Everything else is going really well. We currently have eight people on baptismal date, and just as a little background, Nelspruit had a total of, I think, about three baptism in the whole of last year. So if me and my companion were actually to make this goal that would be very cool. But it’s not about numbers. I would rather baptize one person who is truly converted rather than ten that will go less active.
That really cool you were able to see our apartment, we live on the very top floor in the far right corner of the building next to the street. I’m not sure of the church address but it’s just in town and it’s behind a store called Rich Man Poor Man Furniture Store. I’ll try to get the address. That’s sweet though that BYU is doing so well I wish I could watch the games. The biggest game here I’m sure most of you know is football (soccer) or rugby for the Afrikaans people. But all the Afrikaans like soccer, the big rivals here are teams called The Chiefs and The Pirates. They both played the other day and tied. I don’t know why I’m telling you this but everyone enjoys watching soccer, and if its soccer time you can just about forget about teaching them anything because this is their life here. It’s crazy to see little kids in the street playing with a ball that is made out of plastic bags trying to knock over a brick, but they still have the time of their lives, and they don’t need an Xbox or anything to do that, it’s cool.
And I wish you luck mom in your calling, you’re going to do so good. I know it. But I’m excited to get your package. I don’t really care what music, just like cool soundtracks, anything that’s just nice music that does not take the spirit away I guess. Oh, I also need to buy some socks really bad so I think I’ll be using the home card later today for that if it’s okay. Somehow I’m only down to like two pairs of socks. Don’t ask me what happened to the rest of them. But it’s good to hear from you guys I have a lot more to tell you guys but my time is almost up on the computer so I’ll have to say good bye.
Love, Justin

Things are going great here!
Hey mom and dad,
Its good to hear from both of you. I’m doing pretty good. This week has been pretty hard. Our freaking car broke and we had to walk everywhere. And our area is one of the biggest areas in the whole mission. So it’s been hard and I am getting the coolest tan lines ever. I’m glad you liked the pictures I sent. I probably don’t look 185 because I think a lot of the pictures I sent were actually a while ago. I don’t know though I don’t look a whole lot different, but when I left I was like 170 and I weighed myself when I first got to Nelspruit and I was 185...so I don’t know. Ya we went there again and got a picture with Pastor Dan (he is like the leader of the clan) so I’ll try to send that picture. It’s so hard not to laugh when he is doing his thing but I don’t think we will be going back again, we just wanted to get a picture. And yes he is the farthest thing to how Christ would heal. Me and my companion where talking about that. Lately I have been trying to study how Christ taught and trying to read a lot of the parables he said.
52 Mostert is the street name, I think, and we just live in a flat on that street. There is a big 52 number on the gate to get into the flats. It’s like an apartment complex. hope you can find it. It’s also right by a place called Spar, it’s like a place you buy food and things. That’s good to hear the family is good though and Emma is crying, ha-ha sounds like a typical Sunday. I actually miss that, kinda sad. But anyway it’s also good to hear BYU is doing good. That awesome that they are ranked 7th … that pretty cool.
This week we actually had a pretty cool experience. We went to go teach this new family we just made contact with and we started to "debate" on if there are prophets or not today. They were saying that Jesus left us with the holy spirit so we did not need prophets. Too bad people don’t realize that he was talking to his apostles when he said that. Anyway the lesson was going in such a wrong direction and so right in mid sentence, when the lady was just about screaming at us, I told her to stop talking and to listen to me. She was kinda shocked so she was quite. I then began to tell her that our purpose is not to sit in someone’s house and talk about if there is prophet or not. I told her I did not leave my family for 2 years to debate on religious topics, and that I was there to tell her what I know is true. Instantly there was a different feeling in the room and everyone was quite. I then begin to tell her why I was there and what I wanted to teach them, that I was not there to tell her that her church was wrong but to invite her to pray about what we were saying and to ask god, not me, not her pastor, not the internet, but god. We then left the house with a much better feeling. My point is, and something that I learned, was that we as missionaries can sit in someone’s house all day and tell them all the knowledge we have in our brains about the scriptures and try to prove to them in every way that this is the true church. But the thing is that’s not how it works. The only thing that can tell them is that what we are saying is true by the Holy Ghost. It was this day that I realized that missionaries really don’t do a thing we just talk with our mouths, the Spirit is the thing that does everything. So ya that was just my thought … it was kinda cool.
But thanks for your guys email. I’m excited to get the package. All I ask is just for some cool cd's to listen too. I’m also super low on socks. I’m pretty sure there is a little monster in our flat and he comes around and steals our socks because all of mine are gone. But love you both! Have a good week.

Some differen't pics of Nelspruit South Africa
Justin send a bunch of pictures, but for some reason I haven't been able to put upload them on his blog. I will keep working on it, but until then, I found some pictures of Justin's second area. He is now serving in Nelspruit South Africa. It looks like a very beautiful place!!
This place is beautiful!
Hey mom and dad,
I’m just going to write one letter to both of you because I want to send some pictures if possible, but ya it’s so pretty here. There are tons of trees and if you find some fruit on a tree you can just take it if you want so it’s pretty cool. There is this fruit here called leeches or something and I guess they only grow here and they are sooo good, I love them. Ya the north east of South Africa really is the garden of Eden of the mission.
I also asked my companion and he said he does not know who Les is. I think Robinson is a pretty common name but ya me and him have lots of fun together we try to come up with creative ways to tracked and our district is finally starting to play basketball. The only problem is the courts we play on have no backboard but it is still way fun. I am actually now in an all car area and I am putting on weight. I don’t know if I told you but I already reached my goal of 185 pounds so I'm going to try and put on some more. I just don’t want it to go to my stomach. And I’m actually used to driving on the other side of the road. I thought it would be hard but it’s really not it only took me a week and I’ve only almost killed us 2 times so it’s not too bad.
Sweet, I’m excited to get the package. I can buy the shirts and highlighters and other obvious things here, and everything else sounds great. Maybe some music though if possible, like if you could burn me some cd's dad that would be cool. I can listen to like soundtracks and stuff like Lord of the Rings and things like that, or like Enya or just kinda like good music. We just can’t listen to music that takes away the spirit or has romantic tones...whatever that means. So if you could burn me some good cd's to listen to that would be cool, not that I did not like the cd's you sent me before but some more would be nice. If I think of anything else I’ll let you guys know.
Something funny actually happened last week we found this pastor guy and he told us to come to the hospital to preach on Monday. So we went kinda expecting there to be like a crowd of people or something that we would be talking to. Turns out we go to the hospital and there is just these 3 huge Afrikaner guys and they waved us to come over so we did. They were all these like crazy pastor guys, and they prayed with us in the lobby and like made us hold their hand and one of them just starts shouting in Afrikaans to of all these people. Then after they told us to follow them in these rooms with patients in them. And they were just going room to room trying to heal these people shouting at like the top of their lungs screaming Jesus, and like blessed Jesus we praise you Jesus! You’re the best Jesus! Me and my companion were like just sitting here trying not to laugh and to keep serious, it was crazy. Oh and we also got annoyed by one of them. He grabbed our heads and started to say this funky prayer. So we are going to go see them tonight and try and get some pictures and things. But ya I thought that was pretty funny. I’m actually now teaching gospel principles class in our ward and I’m also going to be playing the guitar in primary, I think. But ya I used to be afraid of callings but now I have just learned that they make you grow and learn so much more and at such a faster pace. But it’s good to talk to you guys there’s a lot more I want to say but I need time to send pictures so I'll talk to both of you next week, love you both!

I am now serving in Nelspruit, South Africa!
Hey dad,
Ya the last couple of weeks have been no good but I guess its experience. Actually it all made up for it now. I am in the most beautiful place in south Africa, in the North East in a place called Nelspruit. I think that the spelling. It’s so pretty, it’s like a jungle area and its really nice. You would have died on the drive out here it was almost like I was in a dream or something. My new companion is Elder Robinson and we get along really well. He is from St. George and we are almost like exactly the same, we get along great. The only problem is this being the most pretty area it’s also the hardest area in the mission. By far, it’s a more Afrikaans area. There is a difference between Africans and the Afrikaners. Africans are black and Afrikaners are white and sadly a lot more stubborn and hard headed. It’s a very wealthy area and basically my whole mission has changed. I went from teaching every hour of every day to knocking on massive gates and talking in intercoms. It’s a lot different and so hard but they say if you can have success here you can have success in any part of the mission. It’s crazy though like all of the homes have HUGE DOGS. I mean like big big and they do not like you. The other day I had my first dog experience and I had to kick it. It was not to big though but man I don’t know what they’re freaking feeding their dogs. I think they give them like protein shakes every morning or something its crazy. Me and my new companion have fun though we come up with some fun games while tracting, like we came up with this one where right before the person comes to the gate, or whatever, one of us says a color then the other has to put that color in somewhere as they are talking, it’s pretty funny we had some funny things happen the other day.
I am very low on money but I’m not going to try and use the home card if I can. I can just buy some bread and pope or something for the next couple of weeks until money comes in but I might have to use it for shirts sometime. But ya that’s good BYU is doing good as well but it’s good to hear from you dad love ya lots.
Mommmmm,
Hey it’s good to hear from you too, the week has been good as you read in dads, and ya the inside of the cow was not a great experience. The past few days have been good. The ward is really good here as well. The only problem is that it is in a really bad part of town so people are scared to go to it. We meet in the back of a furniture store, kinda funny but not. The members are really good though and very very dedicated, it’s a small branch. We actually went and saw this man in the ward yesterday that had terminal cancer. It was actually a really emotional experience and we gave him a blessing and everything and he told us a lot about missionary work. The cool thing about the man though was that he was still making jokes and asking if he could help in any way in the church even though he knew that he would not make it, it’s just so amazing to me.
That’s the advice I would give to grandma and everyone else, I know it’s hard when things like this happen. It was very hard for me when I found out my grandpa had passed on. I was down for a few weeks but the thing is you cannot let it get you down. I know it’s hard to just say that but when you think of where he is what he is doing, it should make you happy. If we truly understood the plan of salvation and if we could just see a glimpse of what we could have, I believe every single person on earth would obey with exactness. I don’t know what it’s like where grandpa is or what maybe he is exactly doing but I do know how happy he is, and I do know that he does not want us to be sad. If we look at the life ahead of us with a bad attitude everything that follows will be a bad result. I know this sounds simple but it’s very true and something people do not realize and how key life is according to the way we face our trials and the way we look at life. God wants us to be happy and He wants to do everything in His power to make us happy but we just have to go that 10% and let Him in. Whenever we are teaching a lesson and the subject comes up of what I care about the most in life, I say my family. Because I have realized almost more than anything now on my mission about how important your family is. I look back at all the stupid things I used to think were important but the main thing that matters is eternal happiness, which is what having a family is all about. But ya that’s my advice, sorry if I was all over the place my mind works faster than my mouth. But I love you very much mom and dad, more than anything. And I’m sorry you have to do jury duty:) That no good let me know how it goes.
Love ya, Justin

Going a little crazy!
Hey dad,
Its good to hear from you but honestly i am not in to good of a mood i have been living out of a suit case for the past week or more have almost spent all of my allot money because we have to go by food like everyday because they keep telling us we are going to a new area then they switch and tell us to just stay there. This is really annoying I'm going crazy i have been sleeping on a floor for like a week and all us that have come down from bots are not very happy with the president, they need to stop messing around and just put us in an area i have no idea what they are waiting for and its actually not making me very happy. They keep thinking we are going to get residency but there just waisting time, they should have just put new elders up there from the start, i know it sounds like I'm not taking this well but you have no idea how frustrating it has been the past couple of weeks, i just want my own area, the guys have been good tho that we are staying with i am getting along with them all really well, are they are great guys so that's a plus its just a space issue. But ya I'm sorry for the bad attitude but I'm just tired and sick of this.
I actually finally ate the inside of a cow, its called mohodu or something like that, and i almost died, the smell is so so bad, when she brought it out it literally smelt like poop on a plate o my it was bad we also ate cow feet, the funny thing is tho is that it was not to bad, it was not the best thing i have ever had but it was mainly the smell that was bad. Also the day after i left are flat in bots it got broken into and the guys stole a bunch of stuff along with the car and they actually crashed the car and got away, i guess they broke the bars off of the house (every house in bots and south Africa have bars on the windows and doors if you did not know) and broke threw the door while they were sleeping. I felt pretty bad when they told me.
Yesterday i was kinda funny tho i woke up and i thought we were going to the church but instead the elders i was with took me to a school and they told me that we were going to have to give some speeches at this school and so i was like okay sounds good i guess so we walked in and the whole food court was full of like 200 people about, so i started to like kinda get freaked out a little bit we also got to sit in like these nice chairs and they like announced are names and everything and had us stand up, i can not tell you about how nervous i was becoming we had to like stand up and wave to all these people while they we cheering. Turns out tho it was just all a joke and we did not have to give a speech that we were just welcomed guests and this like fundraiser thing or something, it was actually pretty cool tho they had like this like culture dance and some music numbers and things it was very cool i wish i had my camera. people hear are like crazy at dancing and they make the music with there voices i cant really describe it but it is very cool and sounds really good. So yes that was my week sorry I'm not very happy i guess these things just happen but we are going to go play basketball in a couple of hours and i have not played good basketball for a while so i am excited for that but i thing I'm just going to send this one email for you and mom and I'm going to try to send some pics because Tara said she wanted some, but its good to hear from you dad i love you alot and tell mom i love here too, thanks for all the sports updates as well i like them. but hope you have a good week love ya.
Love, Justin
