Hey dad
Ya it was really good to hear your guys voices, I could have talked for hours. Thanks for your nice comments, but I still honestly feel like I am a very slow learner. I don't why I just feel like there are so many things to take in and not that much time. I always worry about, what if I don't remember what I have read and things like that. But I guess it does not matter, the Lord will help me learn what I need to learn.
Ha ha that funny about mom, I missed having Christmas there very much! It did not really feel like Christmas but it was still a good day, we had fun in are flat. We really did not do to much, we are not supposed to go tracking or anything on that day and same with new years. but I think we are actually going to go singing with all these people in the bush or something. We always here these people singing and we were invited to come so I think we might go do that on new years. On Christmas we just went hiking for a good portion of the day then made a nice meal, then we played risk. Oh, we also went and all bought some air soft guns to play with, last night we turned off all the lights and we were having a battle it was really fun! We had Enya playing in the background it was pretty funny.
That's to bad about you being able to help out your friend, its cool you were able to pick up on the fact that he needed help by the spirit. I hope I will be able to have an experience like that some day. I don't think I'm really that in tune with the spirit yet, but I'm trying to be. Well it was good hearing from you again dad and thanks for all the pics you sent I love them, I'm going to print them out.
Love, Justin
Hey Mom
It was very nice talking to you guys! I was like in second heaven after talking to you guys! It was a very good Christmas present, probably the best one. But ya, I'm trying to get the language down here. The thing is once I leave Botswana I'm going to have to learn a whole new language again, so it kinda blows but its a good experience. And ya I got the pictures it made me very homesick, ha ha I miss having Christmas there very much. That's fun you guys are going up to park city, it should be fun.
I'm so mad that I forgot to bring my camera! I cant send you guys pics but I'll for sure send a bunch next week, would you guys rather me spend most of my time sending pictures one time rather than emailing? That way you can see all the pics I have taken. I don't have time when I email so maybe one time I can just send you guys pictures, its up to you guys though. Just let me know. Anyway its good hearing from you guys like always, love you a lot mom!

Merry Christmas!
Hey dad!
Its good to hear from you also, I get pumped up on Sunday night to talk to you guys. Ya we have had fun building the home, sadly I don’t have any pictures yet because I never really bring my camera there because I don’t want it to get smashed or something. It’s actually really hard building a house from complete scratch with nothing but short shovels and l wheelbarrow, but it’s cool.
Ya I’m excited for Christmas I think I might get a little homesick but I should be good. I miss the snow like crazy, but ya its cool. I think we are going to try to get a goat and slaughter it on Christmas day, but they are really expensive so we don’t know yet. We are trying to find a cheap one. We have been thinking about just accidentally hitting one with our car because they are all over the road, but I’m not sure that would be to Christ like. Ya I’ve been reading about 26 pages a day and I think I should be able to finish. And about Missionary Pal I actually got one. I gave my companion 200 pula and like 5 ties. I also was going to give him my sun glasses but he told me he did not want them so I actually have one now, thanks though for getting one and tell brother Young thanks anyways. Ya my companion is really cool, today we were actually wrestling in the flat and it got a little out of control and I kinda threw his hand through the window. It was kinda crazy but kinda funny so know we have this big hole in one of our windows that we had to tape up. His hand was like all cut up. But ya we really do get along he is a cool dude. He gave me like a bunch of Teachings of the Prophets books that I can have for free so that was cool of him.
O and thanks for another package! I really appreciate it. Oh, and we are allowed to listen to soundtracks like Lord of the Rings and Pirates and stuff like that. We are allowed to listen to anything that will not take the spirit away and is not romantic just so you know. And I actually have a CD player … one of the missionaries gave me his for some reason, so I have one now. And thanks for the ID, I kinda need it. I have been driving quite a bit but I don’t really think I am supposed to with a paper license. I have finally gotten used to driving on the other side of the road and the other side of the car finally. Ha-ha I’m glad Cameron is following in my footsteps ha-ha, but you will be glad to know that I sing everyday now and very much. We sing at the beginning and at the end of each lesson with my guitar, so I sing quite a bit. Oh and speaking of singing, our ward (or half of our ward) went to sing at a place called Spar the other day. Spar is kinda like a Wal-Mart here, it was really fun. I had my guitar and we all sang Christmas carols. I’ll try to send some pics.
And I’m actually going to miss putting up all the Christmas lights sadly ha-ha, make sure to send me some pictures of the house please. And yes I’ll call at 7 o’clock. Here our number is 71377796 just in case. And I don't think I will ever forget our number, but it’s great to hear from you can’t wait to talk to you guys on Christmas!
Love, Justin
Hey mom!
It’s good to hear from you. I’m glad everything went good at your school, sounds fun. And we are careful with the axe. But things are going great here so far. This week has been kinda crazy. Time really does go by so fast here it’s just crazy at how fast time goes by. It feels like I was just emailing you guys a couple of days ago. but ya this week has been good. The other day we were at this recent convert Janet’s house, and she lives in a place called Odi. It is a little more in the mountain part of Bots and its really rocky, it’s very pretty there. Anyway, up there is lots of like scorpions and snakes and stuff so the other day we went up there and she said there was a snake she was trying to kill. So we went in the back yard and it was a freaking cobra! My companion is crazy so he ran up to it and tried to kill it. As he did that, it like looked up at me a spit this like crazy acid at me. I had no idea that snakes could spit acid and supposedly it can blind you. It got like on my pants a little bit … I was freaked out, but we eventually killed it. It was kinda cool though, I’ve never seen anything like that before. But ya anyway Christmas is in the air here. Me and some ward members went and played Christmas carols the other day as I told dad. Church is going good, I am the official Sunday School teacher at our church now and I love it. I was so scared my first time but I’ve gotten to be alright at it. We have some really good conversations in my class, its kinda weird though teaching people twice my age, it’s a good learning experience though.
Ya and my companion is awesome we have a good time together. He will probably get transferred in January and I will most likely stay here because it’s my first area. Ya I’m eating a lot and working out every morning. I feel like I am putting on weight but I don't know I am for sure not loosing anything. Everyone here though thinks that I am like 27 because I’m so big, you will find that everyone here is like really small, so they all think I’m a lot older then I am.
And I really hope we will be able to baptize that family on the 26th. We have fasted 3 times and prayed a lot, so I guess we’re just hoping for a miracle. We are seeing this really great kid named Thuso though and he awesome. We can’t baptize him for 3 months though because he is 17. He is going to be such a strong member. You will find that people here have no problem having faith because they have to, because they’re so poor. They have to rely on the Lord for everything because they have no money. The problem is just getting people dedicated to come to church here. They are so laid back they don’t really realize the importance. Last Sunday I gave a talk and I kinda gave it to the members a little bit, that they need to pick it up a little bit it they every want to become a ward in Mochudi, because right now they are just what we call a Unit. But it’s great to hear from you guys I’m really excited to talk to you guys in a couple of days, it sounds like I will be calling around 10 o’clock there, 7 o’clock here. It was good talking to you though tell everyone I say hi!

This week has been great!
Hey dad!
This week has been great, we actually have not yet gone to the lands to help the dad yet, but we are going there I think this week, instead we have been helping this girl build a house. I have learned how to build a legit bots house, it very hard they don't have any machines so you have to do everything by hand and for some reason they do not believe in long handed shovels. Here they are all made for very short people so my back is in pain but its good. What most of the people here do on Christmas is they all get together and go in the jungle and have singing competitions, and instead of Santa clause they say father Christmas, and all the kids get new clothes. Also its really cool whenever we ask a family what they do on Christmas all of them answer that they go do service for the elderly. I think that's really cool they truly do focus on the good things about Christmas here.
I really have been reading alot lately I'm trying to read the book of Mormon before Christmas and its going to be hard but I think I'm going to do it! I'm about half way now, that stinks about the missionary pal its an awesome book, my companion has one but when he leaves I wont be able to look at it anymore. Thanks for sending those other books though, I really appreciate it.
This week has been great though, we had something we call a U-night where all the members come together and do an activity, we also had a ysa activity and they both went really well, the family we have been fasting and praying about came to church yesterday! Oh, I was so happy, they are the best their called the Sekatemas, and something pretty cool actually happened. We went to there house on Saturday just to remind them about church because, we actually had another appointment soon, so we got there said hi and where walking back to the car when the father realized that we had a flat tire, so we actually had to change it and it took a while because we had a messed up jack. Anyway, we were not able to make it to are other appointment so we spent more time with the family. We took all this as a sign that God was telling us we needed to be there more then at are other appointment and it really payed off because they came to church the next day! I was so happy when I saw the whole family walk in the door. The father is awesome! We were playing basketball with him and he gets really funny when we play basketball, I actually got a bloody lip from him because he plays kinda crazy! But I love him very much. The whole family is awesome.
I also was wondering when you guys where going to send my ID I remember you guys said you where going to send it but I still have not got it. Anyway, its really good to hear from you guys. I love you very much.
Love, Justin
Hey mom!

I have not received a letter form Rachel yet, I'm sure ill get it soon. Things are going good though. I want to send pictures but I don't have to much time on the computer maybe I will send some today. So I will have to make this short because we are leaving soon. And yes! I'm going to talk to you guys on Christmas. What time works best for you guys? I really want to send some pictures so I will send some right now. I love you very much mom thanks for all the emails. I know I have not written much but I will send you some pictures.

Grandpa Markling
Grandpa Markling recently passed away. I wanted to put something on Justin's missionary blog to honor our dear Grandfather. I know that Justin has had a difficult time being away from the family during this difficult time. I was able to get a copy of Grandpa's obituary, and also a few pictures to remember him. We will miss him so very much! And we will love him forever!
Paul Donald Markling, 84, of Henderson, passed away Nov. 27, 2010. He was born June 8, 1926, in Santa Maria, Calif., and was a 12-year resident of Nevada. Don grew up in Santa Maria and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. He served on both the SS Winfield S. Stratton and the USS Goodhue as a radar operator and gunner during World War II. He married Shirley Mae Ames July 12, 1947. He attended USC, earned both bachelors and masters degrees and became an architect. He opened the Markling and Yamasaki Architecture firm in South San Francisco in 1959; and in 1978, went to work for the LDS Church's Building Department, retiring in 1998 as a director of Physical Facilities. Don and Shirley then moved to Henderson and at the time of his death he was working for Copper Creek Construction doing what he loved. He was active in church, and especially loved working with the youth as a scout leader. He enjoyed driving and always had a sporty car. He loved BYU and USC football. He was an unselfish man with a great sense of humor. He put family first, provided a good home and even after the kids left the nest he always helped out as much as he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul W. and Lavona I. Markling. He is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years, Shirley; sons, Jerry (Dory) and Jeff Markling; daughters, Michelle MacHale (Tom) and Jackie Brey (Ron); 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis Beach. Viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, followed immediately by the funeral services, both at the LDS Church, 2701 E. Pebble Road. Burial will take place Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Ogden City Cemetery in Ogden, Utah. "Welcome home thy good and faithful servant."
I got my package!
Hey dad,
Yea! I was so excited when I got my package, thanks a lot for the camera I really needed it. And ya president Poulsen called me and talked to me for a little bit, it was very kind of him. I have been having a hard time this week holding it together but its really been a good week. Me and my companion fasted for this family called the Sekatema family, we really want to baptise them on the 26th of December and its going to be a challenge, the father has work alot on Sundays and the whole family can not go if he does not go because he has the car and they have no money to pay for a taxi they also live far away, and the mother still does not know if the church is true, so we fasted for them and it was very hard, me and my companion both did something very stupid while we were fasting! We went to help this girl Tessy cut down a tree (that was very large) but we could not drink any water so I was going crazy, it really tested my faith I think, It was like drenching my garments in cold water! I went home and just laid on my bed with the fan blasting me, it was so hard but I just hope is was worth it, I want to baptise them so bad, they are so awesome I love them very much, we are going to help the father today in the fields, its where they have all there farming done and everything, and I heard that there is monkeys there that throw rocks at you so I am excited!
I don't know whats wrong with me. While I was reading your guys emails I have been trying not to cry so hard, I feel like a girl. I'm going to have an emotional brake down, I know that sounds stupid but I really don't know what wrong with me. I have so emotional lately!
And you don't sound preachy at all, I really like what you said it is very true. I love you dad very much, I miss you alot I put the picture of all you guys right next to where I study, my companion always tells me to stop staring at it, but I cant help it, I love my family so much you guys mean everything to me. I am really enjoying me mission so far its been hard but its been fun, I just feel so stupid sometimes, ever since I have been here I just want to know everything about everything, its very strange I actually like reading now and I just love learning new things, I know that does not sound like me but its true. anyways I love you very much and love all your emails, thanks dad.

Hey mom,
Ha ha, I have been going crazy to get on the computer too! This stupid Internet cafe is a joke, so I came here, payed, got my password went to the computer and it did not work went to the next computer and it did not work, so I finally went up to the desk and told the lady it was not working, over minutes of trying to get it to work, which seemed like hours by the way, we finally got it to work, then when I got on the Internet did not work, I wanted to go outside and kill the first animal I saw, anyways here I am now writing you. I am always very excited to write you guys. Yes, I finally got the package, I was so excited! I love the stickers you put on it! By the way, my box was the biggest box out of everyone else's....that right! I love the family picture and the camera and the blanket its very cool, all the guys at my flat were going crazy over all the candy. Ha ha! Why would I give away the blanket?? I love it! But why would I want to give someone else a blanket with a picture of my family on it? Ha ha, I would feel very awkward putting a blanket over me of someone else's family on it. But anyway thanks very much I love everything. Tell Tara thanks very much! Oh, I also loved the notes from the triplets that was awesome, I like there pictures too, tell them thanks.
I am really glad to here grandpas funeral, I really wish I could have been there. I'm sure your speech was really good. I am going to miss him very much. This week was pretty good, I cut down a tree for the first time, me and my companion went out and bought an axe and have been doing axe training in the morning, its a work out we made up, its supposed to make you very strong, I felt kinda like a creep going out and buying a giant axe for some reason, but this week I'm excited we are going farming with the father then we are helping this recent convert Tessy build a new house, so we are going to be very busy but I'm excited. I love the blog Tara made its cool, and can you let Angie now that I am trying to send back a letter I have just been really busy! I hardly have time to sit down and write anything, but I feel bad I have not written anything back but I will soon. I am actually running out of time. I'm sorry I did not really get to reply to everything but I will talk to you next week, love you very much and love all your emails.

Love, Justin
This week has been a little tough....but I am good!
Hey dad, thanks for your email. I'm really sorry to hear about grandpa,
I was actually trying to hold myself together in the emailing room, I
have been praying and fasting for him this whole week, but I guess it
was his time to go. I cant believe that he has left so soon, I have
been praying that I would see him again after I come home from my mission, but
I guess i'll just have to wait a little longer.
The sunsets here are absolutely breath taking, I am going crazy
without a camera, ill just have to get some pictures from my
companion. I have not got my package yet but sister Morgan said I
should get it soon, hopefully I will get it next week. I am going a
little crazy waiting for it!
Gosh, are kidding that BYU lost, this week has not been very good,
a lot of are investigators have been ditching us, we did not get to go
to the temple and my grandpa has passed away. This is for sure not my
week. So some of the members went to the temple but we are not able to
go if no recent converts go, so that was a bummer. But ya they just
save up money and go on a bus, its about a 6-7 hour drive.
Packer and Oaks were just on satellite, it was great! Oh, and that
actually reminds me, did I ever tell you I met Jeffery R Holland, at
the mtc? He came a couple days before I left and I got to shake his
hand and stuff, it was very cool. I don't remember if I ever told you
that.
But thanks for the email, sorry my email is not very exciting it has
not been the best week, we did have transfers though and are district is
staying the same which is really cool. But its been good hearing from
you, love you dad. PS- I was wondering if maybe you could do me a huge
favor, I know you just sent a package but I was wondering if you could
send me some books, one is called missionary pal by Keith Marston and
the other is doctrine of salvation by Joseph fielding smith, there is
two volumes. I would really appreciate it if you could send these to
me, sorry I did not say this before you sent the package. Oh, I also
spent some money on my home card, I need to learn how to budget better
I ran out of money, it seems like they give us hardly any money but I
guess they do that so we learn how to budget. Thanks dad.
Love Justin
Mother,
Hey mom, I'm so sorry to hear about grandpa, I honestly can not believe
it, I really was hoping I would be able to see him again before he
left. Just know that he is really in a better place, my testimony has
grown so much more since I have been on a mission and I know that we
will all be together again after this life, there is no question in my
mind. I love all you guys so much I am missing all of you like crazy, but
I love being here.
Ya, that would be cool if I could get the address for the blog. That's
weird that you have not heard from Angie, hows that site going that
she set up, you guys should get together and work on it or something.
The weather here has been extremely hot I will never complain about
snow ever again, you are just constantly sweating, you never stop, and
I'm so thirsty all the time. It has not hailed again I think that was a
very rare occasion. We are actually trying to grow some watermelons,
it is very hard but I think we will get a couple.
This week has not been too good, but I'm doing good. I was able to
baptise this girl Janet yesterday it was really cool she is going to
be an awesome member, she is about 18-19.
we should hopefully get 2 family's baptized in December, so we should
have a white Christmas. But thanks mom for everything and your emails,
love you lots!
